Video of Self Driving Car Prototypes

Above is a short video of one of the self-driving car prototypes driving by me on Stewart in Sunnyvale.

Below is another video of another prototype driving in the opposite direction.  They appear to be making circuits along Stewart to DeGuigne to Arques and back along Wolfe Road to Stewart, a single block.  There are several Apple offices along the route and also a Lyft car certification station.

About Me

John F. McGowan, Ph.D. solves problems using mathematics and mathematical software, including developing gesture recognition for touch devices, video compression and speech recognition technologies. He has extensive experience developing software in C, C++, MATLAB, Python, Visual Basic and many other programming languages. He has been a Visiting Scholar at HP Labs developing computer vision algorithms and software for mobile devices. He has worked as a contractor at NASA Ames Research Center involved in the research and development of image and video processing algorithms and technology. He has published articles on the origin and evolution of life, the exploration of Mars (anticipating the discovery of methane on Mars), and cheap access to space. He has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.S. in physics from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

The invasion of self-driving car prototypes in my office neighborhood continues.  The vehicle appears to be a Toyota Lexus of some type.

Here is another one a few minutes earlier:

They sometimes seem to turn into the parking lot of this building and disappear.

This is a better closeup of one of the unmarked cars with instrument pods swarming around my office neighborhood in Sunnyvale.  It is almost certainly a self-driving car prototype.

These unmarked vehicles with an instrument pod on top have been out in force near where I work in Sunnyvale recently.  I have seen them rarely in the neighborhood over the last six months, but activity has ramped up dramatically in the last few weeks.
